The Resurrection of Jason: Steve Burton Set to Return to General Hospital

The commemoration of “General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling” not only marked a significant milestone in the world of soap operas but also unveiled thrilling news for loyal fans. Steve Burton is gearing up for his comeback to the show, signaling the potential resurrection of the once-declared deceased Jason Morgan.

In a stunning revelation during the prime time special, “General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling,” Laura Wright (Carly) and Kelly Monaco (Sam) added an extra layer of suspense. Standing beside a closed door, the atmosphere intensified as Steve Burton stepped through, adorned in Jason’s iconic black leather jacket. With an enigmatic smile, he hinted at significant developments awaiting Port Charles, undoubtedly alluding to Jason Morgan’s imminent return.

Steve Burton, recognized for his portrayal of Jason Morgan, recently shared news of his departure from Days of our Lives, where he had embodied the character of lawman Harris Michaels for nearly a year. As Days of our Lives operates on a six-month filming schedule, audiences can expect to witness Burton in his current role until approximately June on the Peacock drama.

This marks Burton’s third return to General Hospital, proving that the allure of Port Charles and the captivating storyline of Jason Morgan continue to draw him back. His journey on the show began in 1991 as the son of Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) and Susan Moore (Gail Rae Carlson). The character underwent a significant transformation in the mid-1990s following a car accident that altered Jason’s persona dramatically.

Adopting the surname Morgan, Jason became Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) indispensable ally, embroiled in various thrilling escapades. His on-screen romances with leading ladies such as Kelly Monaco (Sam) and Rebecca Herbst (Liz) added layers to the character’s complexity.

Throughout the years, Burton’s presence on General Hospital has been marked by intermittent departures and returns, whether to explore new opportunities or, more recently, due to a now-lifted mandate requiring ABC/Disney employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.SoapsSpoiler.Com

Having initially left General Hospital in 2001, Burton made a triumphant return about a year later. His departure in late 2012, just before the show’s 50th anniversary, was followed by a stint as Dylan McAvoy on The Young and the Restless, earning him a second Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Burton’s subsequent return to General Hospital revealed a fascinating twist, with the character known as “Jason” (played by Billy Miller) turning out to be Drew Cain, Jason’s twin. Cameron Mathison has since taken on the role of Drew.

General Hospital cleverly wrote out Jason’s character by presuming him dead in a cave-in, leaving the door wide open for his potential return to the vivid tapestry of Port Charles’s story.
