His talent soon led him to television, with appearances in Switch (1977) and a last-minute substitution in Grease (1978), requiring a blond hair makeover. Subsequent roles in films like Take Down (1979) and Tilt (1979) paved the way for his entry into the world of soap operas.

Between 1980 and 1981, Lamas graced the primetime soap opera Secrets of Midland Heights, starring alongside notable names like Martha Scott, Bibi Besch, and Linda Hamilton. A pivotal moment occurred in 1980 when he successfully auditioned for Falcon Crest, transforming a pilot into a long-running serial. Lamas portrayed Lance Cumson, a wealthy playboy, sharing the screen with luminaries like Jane Wyman, Susan Sullivan, Mariska Hargitay, and Abby Dalton, who later became his mother-in-law.

Beyond Falcon Crest, Lamas ventured into various TV series such as Fantasy Island (1983), Hotel (1983), and The Hitchhiker (1990).
